As a writer I always feel kind of sad whenever someone says that a picture can say more than 1,000 words. But in some cases it’s true, though.
I had a great time at the Dutch Comic Con (DCC) and will definitely try and go there next year (if I end up living anywhere near the Netherlands, that is). I also have decided that if I do, I must dress up more outspokenly than I did last Sunday; I was trying to look like Bernadette from The Big Bang Theory, but there were so many fairies, female characters from the latest Star Wars movie, and even some male unicorns running around, that my subtle floral dress and pink cardigan didn’t really pop. Oh well.
The best part of DCC was the ambience. Everyone was really nice, even after someone bumped into me they said sorry (they NEVER do that in everyday life!), and there was a general feeling of relaxation and happiness. All was very mellow.
Another big plus (for me) was that it wasn’t super big and there weren’t huge crowds roaming the exposition halls. That’s probably because DCC is still growing and gaining popularity, and because me and W went on a Sunday (Easter) and everyone knows Saturdays are the busiest.
So, all in all I had a blast! 😀 I even encountered a store where they sold (overpriced) Chrono Trigger paintings AND I’ve been reminded there are a Big Bang Theory-version of Clue, and a zombie and vampire version of Munchkin. Must buy those one day (again: totally overpriced at the fair).
To end, I’d like to say that maybe a picture can say more than 1,000 words, but experience is always a million times more valuable than any picture. In other words: me and W were too busy having fun to take more 😉

Wow comic con… Awesome! I hope you get to go the next year too and enjoy it more.. I have been trying to go to one since two years but every year it gets organized on important work days and my manager just can’t understand my need to go to one. lol Gotta make it this year ;).
Experience is more valuable and it speaks much more then a few thousand words for sure. I do accept that sometimes I cringe at the words that picture can be worth more then a thousand words but sometimes I look at few pictures and I feel the same. Love how few pictures can bring back memories like flooding river.

I know right! ComicCon is awesome, your boss should really let you go to one! I hope you’ll go to one one day (soon!). It’s truly amazing.
Regarding pictures, I have the same feelings as you. Sometimes they don’t need words to be understood to the fullest, sometimes words seem better. But whatever the case, experience is key and enjoying yourself is most important. Have a great weekend, Hemangini!

You can call me Sammy or Sam, that’s what my friends call me. I am on facebook… kinda. I mean, I have an account (just search my name), but I’m hardly ever on there. If you add me, I’ll add you back! It just might take a while as I’m not really into social media.

I’m not saying change is bad, but somehow some changes sadden me. I love words, I love reading, I love writing. Then again, I don’t know if that’ll be the case still in 20 years time (or less).

Samantha, regarding your thoughts, as a writer, on “A Picture Being Worth A Thousand Words”; perhaps, you may wish to think of yourself as a “Communicator”. Just a thought.
I as the world changes, my attention span and I suspect that of others seems to have changed. I may once in a while tackle something like a Russian novel, but usually pass on those heavy volumes–hence the age of Twitter. I’m not saying it is better, it just is what it is.
I enjoyed reading about the Dutch Comic Con and decided I will have to go to something similar here in the USA. Oh, at the photos of the Comic Con were nice too 🙂

That is so awesome. And it does seem really chill. You should enjoy that because here in America, it is way too crazy and no one can get tickets. Someday I hope I can go, but it will probably be as an old man.

That’s actually not a bad idea. I’ve never been outside of North America. It would be fun to visit Europe. Obviously I would go to the Netherlands first. Anywhere else you would recommend?

Never go to the Netherlands. What is wrong with you people!? My country is boring, full of hypocritical people, has horrible food, is cheap on service and high on prices, and, most importantly, is flat. Instead, go to any Scandinavian country, they are all well worth it! Ireland is another personal favourite, and London is a great city. And I really enjoyed Estonia. Small, but very pretty, and they have Vana Tallinn, which is positively the best kind of rum mixture ever made by mankind. Other countries to visit are Germany, Belgium (avoid the French parts) and Italy for a trip to Rome. Skip the NL. It’s not worth it. Unless you come in late 2017, because by then we’ll have pandas in a zoo.

And then there is also Netherland Com.:) I feel the same way about the place I grew up in. South Dakota. It is flat, boring and all kinds of bad things. Some people visit it and say they liked it, but only because they went to Mt. Rushmore. The place I grew up in was boring and bland.

Where there any celebrities or influential people of note there? Did you attend any panels or anything like that. Looks like big time fun.

Well, there was this guy who was praised for having played many roles in many series, such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer (I was a total fan of that show). But we had to look him up in a booklet and see his picture and description to find out who he was and who he’d played (apparently a minor part in one episode). So yes, there were celebrities, but most of them I didn’t know, and even if the shows they played in rang a bell, the visiting actors usually only had a small part. The art of illusion, ey 😉
But as I said, DCC is growing still, so I imagine bigger celebs visiting in the future.

When I lived in New York, we would go to the big Comic cons in New York and New Jersey. I loved it. They have them here in Las Vegas too but I’ve yet to go.
