A Quick And Sh*tty Status Update

Okay, so here I was, with a notebook nearly scribbled full with ideas, colour codes, image sizes, all ready to be used on Heart to Follow to create new content, introduce new sections and – hopefully – improve interaction with all of you.

Sadly, Life came in between. As usual.

Like it ever does anything else, right? 😉

So here is the deal: my pet gerbil Darwin is sick. You ought to know by now I am a huge animal lover and when there is something wrong with my pets I get upset and am known to nearly drown in worries.

Darwin has diarrhoea and a pretty bad case of it, too. Diarrhoea can be fatal for rodents and gerbils are no exception! Last Friday, I took my beloved furr-ball to the vet and since he refused to poop on her examination table as I had secretly expected he would, the doctor had little to go on but my sad stories. So, she sent me home, telling me to keep an eye on Darwin’s bowel movements for the weekend and if it hadn’t improved by Monday to bring back some gerbil-stool for her.

My poor little Darwin ❤

Monday came and Darwin’s situation had not improved. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still as happy as ever, it’s just that his diarrhoea hadn’t changed a bit. So off I went with some stool samples, neatly delivering them at the vet’s office. She said she’d take a look and get back to me ASAP.

ASAP was too slow for my likings and thus I phoned the vet myself (I mean, today Darwin’s hit a seven day diarrhoea streak! He’s losing weight and I am losing hope he’ll get better). Her assistant couldn’t tell me a lot, but promised to call me back ASAP.

In this case, though, ASAP was less than five minutes later. Turns out my vet had not forgotten about Darwin or his condition, as I was afraid she might, and had actually put his stool sample aside for 24 hours, drenched in some chemical substance, to test it for parasites.

Which is some sort of relief, but at the same time I am not less worried. Diarrhoea means loss of fluids and less nutritious intake. I see Darwin eating and drinking, but I know it is not enough to cover his losses.

So I hope the vet will ring me tomorrow to say she’s figured out what’s wrong with him and that she has a medicine ready for him.

Until then, this heart is drenched in sorrow.

And my stomach is cluttered with chocolate to cope with all of it 😉

Hope you (and your pets) are all doing well!

Autumn Update

As Fall is rolling in, I thought it was time for some major blog updates!

So please bear with me again until all changes have been implemented, and don’t forget to look forward to new content!

Happy Autumn, everyone! Isn’t it just the best season of all? 😉

Alas! A New Beginning!

Phew! That was a lot of work, but I think I have everything covered now. Changed all the things that needed changing for my blog to look its best 🙂 Away with that hideous and annoying static page and hello again to the World!

For now, I still need to settle with a new writing-and-reading-rhythm. I don’t know about you, but I am getting a bit fed up with only posting videos (although, it is necessary to say, this one is just brilliant and is worth posting. And watching/hearing!). Having said that, I am too tired after a busy and exciting week to figure that out now.

So for now, I say enjoy the song! And hope to see you all back here soon, with me posting more content-y content 😉

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Let’s Talk About The Bear In The Room…

Okay, so I didn’t have a good photo of an elephant… But still. You get the message 😉

Last Thursday, Dictionary Dutch was name-changed into Heart to Follow. This name was mentioned by a good friend, Micah LeLann (link opens in new window), and because I am a sucker for good puns and saw the humour in this one, I instantly fell in love with my blog’s new title.

I hope you will, too.

I am working on changing this blog’s appearance so it’ll match my new ideas and thoughts for content, but it’s a lot of work, so please (here it comes) bear with me.

See, the bear image has value 😉

If, while browsing my blog, you find any broken links or images you are free to let me know about them in the comments. And since it’s Monday, I’ll splash you all with an iconic song that’s so bad but yet so catchy, it’s never going to leave your brain again!

I wish you all a happy Pentecost, a great week and the best of luck with trying to get this gem out of your head 😉

Have I been busy! I’d nearly forgotten how stressful almost-graduating is! So much to finish up on before February the 10th.

And then I know I won’t even be getting my diploma, not until about April or so, because I am behind with ONE trial client. One!

Go figure.

But, I have made peace with it: I will just take a little bit more time to round things up. And that’s fine by me.

Meanwhile, I’ve come up with several new goals for 2018 (I reached every single one of my 2017 goals, despite the crappiness of that year! Go me!) and have made a good start with several of them.

I’ve also had some major pet-stress: I started with two gerbils, then one of them died. Then I got the remaining one a new friend, as gerbils are not supposed to be kept alone. At first things went well, then the new one started attacking the old one because there’s probably something wrong with him; he keeps tilting his head to one side and the vet says it could be anything: a chronic ear ache, a seizure, maybe even a growing tumour. So I kept them apart from each other for a while, then tried to re-couple them.

Then that didn’t work. Plus it also nearly killed the older one from stress. Not good.

Then I had to get a NEW new gerbil for the younger one, to be matched with. That, eventually, worked out (*knocks on wood*).

I am just tired of all this gerbil drama! So little, so cute, so fuzzy… And so difficult! :p

As for the rest: stress always makes my mind linger to bad past experiences and moments that made me sad. 2017, unfortunately, was filled with those kind of moments. But I refuse to let them overwhelm my brains even more than they have already done.

So to round this short status update up on a positive note (and I wrote this merely to show you all I am still alive): here is a Light a Candle picture, to celebrate all the good people I love and miss and who keep popping into my head lately. C, I, J: this one’s for you! And also for Loki, my sweetest crazy furball whose passing started all my pet-drama, but whom I love still.

❤ to you all!

Who do you honour by lighting this candle?
